Libreville – The Gabonese Foreign Ministry has expressed its support for Morocco’s interventions to secure El Guergarat buffer zone in order to ensure the regular flow of goods and people.
In a press release published on November 14th by the same ministry, Gabon expressed its deep concern regarding the illegal operations carried out by “polisario” militias in El Guergarat since October 21, 2020.
“These acts of provocation, sources of tension, constitute flagrant violations of the relevant agreements and Resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, severely restrain civil and commercial flow, and weaken the signed ceasefire,” the statement added.
On this occasion, Gabon recalled that it maintains excellent relations of friendship and cooperation with Morocco and condemned these operations which undermine the integrity of the political process carried out under the exclusive aegis of the Secretary General of United Nations in view of the search for a final and lasting political solution on the question of the Moroccan Sahara.
In the same press release, Gabon reaffirmed its constant support for the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, which presents credible prospects for a final resolution of this dispute.
